Community Safety Update: Firearms Amnesty for Certain Bruni Models |
Dear Residents,
I’m reaching out to make you aware of an important national firearms amnesty taking place throughout February (2–27). This amnesty applies specifically to five models of blank‑firing guns manufactured by Bruni, which have now been classified as illegal to possess following testing by the National Crime Agency and policing partners. Which models are affected? The following Bruni top‑venting or side‑venting blank‑firing models have been found to be readily convertible into lethal firearms using household tools: If you legally purchased one of these items in the past—for collections, bird‑scaring, or theatrical use—you may now surrender it without fear of prosecution during the amnesty period. Why is this important?Although originally designed only to discharge blank cartridges, these particular models have been shown to be easily convertible, meaning they could fall into the hands of criminals. Removing them from circulation helps prevent potential harm and keeps our communities safer. What you should doIf you believe you own one of these models: After the amnestyPossession of any of these models after the surrender period may result in serious criminal penalties, including up to 10 years in prison. Reporting concernsIf you have any information about illegal firearms activity in our area, please report it immediately. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Thank you for playing your part in keeping our community safe. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly. | ||
